Amazing Zelda tattoo is amazing

My “Legend of Zelda” obsession started when I was in 6th grade, and has not wavered since. On my 18th birthday, I got my first tattoo — the start this back piece by Ellie Maher at Tailwind Tattoo. Two years, and twenty-one hours of tattooing later, my back was covered with a tribute to my favorite video game of all time. No regrets.

This… this is something else. Wow. Pure awesome.

Say hello to the cutest assassin around
Connor may be a bad ass assassin, but he’s also is a lovable little ball of carnage in this custom made sack Connor Kenway created by Byrubyr. I love the attention to detail; I mean it even has a wee little bow on the back.

I want it. Now.

After much searching, I’ve finally found a way to disable the irritating Windows live folders (they use thumbnails to display a preview of the folder’s contents). You may want to do this if you have chosen to use your own folder icons, rather than the default Windows ones, as live folders will persist through the icon change.

The more obvious solution is to simply navigate to Folder Options > View and tick “Always show icons, never thumbnails”.

Unfortunately, the above method disables ALL thumbnails, including picture previews. This makes navigating for any image incredibly irritating.

Thankfully, ~Mr-Ragnarok on deviantART has found a solution that fits the bill perfectly. It can be found here. Rather than disabling all thumbnails, only the live folders are disabled. Just what we were searching for!

All that is required is downloading and installing two programs: SageThumbs and XnView.

After these programs have been installed, the aforementioned solution (Folder Options > View. Tick “Always show icons, never thumbnails”) will no longer disable picture previews; only live folders!

Thank you, ~Mr-Ragnarok!

Custom Recycle Bin Icons Don’t Change Automatically

If you’re like me and decided you wanted to spruce up your computer’s recycle bin icons, you may have encountered a small problem.

After changing the icons (here’s how), I found that, whenever I moved something to the recycle bin, the bin’s icon didn’t change. Similarly, if the bin was full and I emptied it, the icon wouldn’t change.

In order to actually force the icon to update, you need to refresh the desktop. That kind of defies the point. So, I pulled up trusty ol’ Google Search and, eventually, found a solution.

Turns out it’s an issue with the registry. As ZERO Tolerance pointed out here, when icons are assigned from .ico files, instead of .dll files, the value is not correctly written to the registry - the system “forgets” to add a comma and a 0 after the icon’s file directory (e.g. C:/directory/icon.ico, 0).

To fix the issue:

 1. Run the Registry Editor (regedit) - in Windows 8, type “run” in the Start screen, click the “Run” program, type “regedit”, hit enter or press OK.
 2. Using the left pane, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\DefaultIcon.
 3. In the right pane, double click on each of the registry items and add “, 0” to the end of each of the values.

And, hey presto, the recycle bin is now behaving as it should.
